Station overview

Facilities

Glen Waverley is located between Kingsway, Coleman Parade and Railway Parade, with station access from Kingsway.

The station consists of two dead end platforms, in an island format, with a large weatherboard building at the down end of the station. The building houses an open waiting area, ticket facilities and toilets. A Myki ticket vending machine was installed at the station in 2010. The installation was delayed as there was no space ideally suited to a Myki machine, as the Metcard machines were located in the optimal locations at the station. Two large Metcard ticket vending machines are located inside the waiting area, which is able to dispense most ticketing options available and also accept notes and coins. Two coin-only Metcard ticket vending machine and a ticket office are also located in the waiting area. It is one of thirteen stations on the Melbourne Metropolitan Rail Network to have Metcard/Myki barriers installed. There are eight bike lockers at the station and 370 car parking spaces.

Stabling Facilities are located directly opposite to the station.

History

Glen Waverley station opened on 5 May 1930, along with the railway line between East Malvern and Glen Waverley.[1] The station was originally built adjacent to Springvale Road until 1963 where it was relocated west to its current location. The old station building was shifted to Epping Station which became a new suburban terminus in 1964.[2] The track section between Syndal railway station and Glen Waverley was duplicated, and opened on Sunday 29 November 1964. Glen Waverley was upgraded to a Premium Station on 16 August 1995 and the first X'Trapolis Train ran on the Glen Waverley line to Glen Waverley on 28 July 2003.[3]
